What type of PPDT Pictures are shown in SSB?
In the Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT) during SSB Screening, candidates are presented with a picture that is deliberately ambiguous or unclear for a brief span of 30 seconds. Subsequently, they are allotted four minutes to craft a PPDT picture story, drawing upon their keen observations and unique interpretations of the visual stimulus. How many pictures will be shown in ppdt test?
After the initial briefing by testing officer , the candidates are shown only one picture which is black and white and hazy . The Picture is shown for 30 seconds. After that 4 minutes and 30 seconds time is to the candidate to write-down the story on paper.
After receiving the initial instructions from the testing officer, candidates are presented with a single black and white, hazy picture on projector . Following this, they are instructed to compose their story based on the visual stimulus.
Here are the tips that should come handy to you while writing a story on PPDT Picture:
- Picture will be remain on the screen for 30 seconds only. So utilise this time fully in observing PPDT picture.
- Define a one line title for the shown picture.
- Create a actor/actress from all the characters seen in the picture and make him/her the main central character of the story to build.
- Also note down their age.
- Main hero/actress age should be of your own age group.

Start by wishing everyone present there in room. Next thing, Be loud and clear , and have a smile on your face while narrating PPDT story. Make Eye contact with the group members only while speaking, not with the IO present in room. This discussion is between candidates only. The officer present in room , just to observe you. In PPDT, end your story narration with a “Thank You” even if your time is over.
