PPDT Group Discussion in SSB Interview Screening

In this post we will talk about PPDT Group Discussion. PPDT stands for Picture Perception & Description Test. By name group discussion, you all know what it means. But in this post we will talk about some basic points, that you have to keep in your mind. These will help you get success in PPDT GD. So lets start.

PPDT Group Discussion in SSB Interview Screening

PPDT Group Discussion

SSB Interview screening is first door of SSB interview testing which you have to cross for reaching to the next stage i.e. Stage 2 Psychology Testing. Now screening is further divided into two parts. We will talk about

• OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating Test)

• PPDT (Picture Perception & Description Test)

Officer intelligence test is simple test of aptitude. Easy questions of figures and facts are given in it. A candidate with an average IQ can solve these questions easily even without much preparation. With little practice, you will be able to solve all the questions.

Now the next thing is PPDT. It is a test of a black and white picture projected on screen & then writing a story based on that particular picture. Candidate will sit in a room and narrate their individual stories in front of other group members. At the end of this narration there will be a short Group Discussion. The base of this GD will be the individual narration.

Group Discussion in PPDT Story

All the candidates will be divided into various groups. The group will be of 10-15 candidates. You will get free time before narrating story. So collect all your points in mind during that free time. In GD you will get very limited chances to collect & express them. The reason is obvious.

In screening group discussion each and every member of your group will try to participate. It is first chance when a candidate shows his communication ability in front of other candidates and testing officers or may be the last one for most of the candidates.

We are saying so because approx. 60-70% candidates get screen out in stage 1 & send back on day 1.So be ready for the word fight because nobody wants to go home on very same day.

In this group discussion all the candidates try their best to get screen in. So they make this test a little tough hurdle. We are calling it a tough test, because in their effort of getting screen in, all the candidates try to speak at same time and hence develop a fish market.

How to Speak in PPDT GD

You may even find some “krantikaris” there. They will shout at the loudest level of their voice to prove their point. Avoid such candidates. They will die and will take you along with them, if you mess with them. I know now you gonna ask me What are the tips for PPDT?
we have given some PPDT Discussion Tips to increase your chance of Success at stage 1.

• Narrate your story in simple & logical manner. It should be short and complete.

• Listening is as important as speaking because you will get new ideas and points for discussion from others’ stories. So listen carefully what other candidates are speaking.

• Don’t repeat points that others had already given. Doing so will show that you lack ideas.

• Try to become the first speaker in the group discussion. If not get a chance then 2nd or 3rd.The reason is obvious- you will get a chance to give the common logical points earlier than other candidates. At your speaker number gets bigger, you are running out of points.

• You have to just discuss about the picture and story. No need to drive a common story. Different people have different ideas. That’s very common.

• During discussion, try to speak in English. If not able to put the point correctly, use Hindi without wasting a single minute. Most Important thing is your point, not the language. A useless point given in fluent English will remain useless only. But try to switch you Hindi as soon as possible if you are attending Graduate entries (CDS or AFCAT etc) . Its expected from a graduate person to be good in English.
