SSB Medical Examination

As the name suggests it is a medical testing for checking physical fitness of candidates. SSB Medical examination is conducted in MH i.e. Military Hospital. Military hospital can be in the premise of selection center or may be outside. It is done because only a physically fit candidate can serve the country with his/her full potential. Usually it is a process of 4 to 6 days. No. of days can increase or decrease depending on the availability of concerned doctor or examiner. A batch of recommended candidates is tested together in MH.

Procedure of Medical Examination

After the declaration of 5th day conference results, recommended candidates will stay in the candidate lines at the selection centers for their medical examination by the Military Hospital. The candidates will be allotted fresh medical chest numbers for the purpose. This chest number will be similar to the one allotted at the time of SSB interview. Medical chest number will be having a red cross on it. The candidates are required to put on their medical chest number whenever they are present in the campus of selection center. After medical examination, candidates are divided into 3 categories.

1. Medically fit
2. Temporary Rejected (TR)
3. Permanent Rejected (PR)

Medical fit candidates will wait for the final merit list. Temporary or permanent rejected candidates have two options:

(a) Appeal Medical Board
(b) Review Medical Board

In appeal medical board the candidates will report for re-examination within 42 days from the date last examined by the Special Medical Board. If the candidate is declared unfit by the Appeal Medical Board, he/she may challenge the proceedings and may be allowed for Review of Medical proceedings based on the merit of the case.

Following medical tests are done by medical board at military hospital:

  • Blood Test
  • Urine Test
  • Ultra Sound Test
  • X-Ray of Chest
  • Dental checkup
  • ENT i.e. Ear, Nose & Throat Checkup
  • Medical Tests- Blood Pressure, Height & Weight
  • Surgical Tests- Whole body checkup etc.

Usually the order of conduct of these test remain like the one given below. But it keeps on changing from one board to another.

Day 1 Medical Tests: Blood Test, Urine Test, Ultra Sound Test, X-Ray of Chest

Day 2 Medical Tests: ENT i.e. Ear, Nose & Throat Checkup

Day 3 Medical Tests: Eyes checkup

Day 4 Medical Tests: Blood Pressure, Height & Weight, Surgical Test, Hyper Tension, Anus

Day 5 Medical Tests: Dental Checkup

Some common cause of rejection are listed below:

Bone problem in nose
over weight,
underweight,
wax in ear etc.

Preparing for the Medical Examination

To ensure a smooth medical examination process, candidates should start preparing in advance. Maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good hygiene can significantly reduce the chances of temporary rejection. Common reasons for medical rejections, such as being overweight, underweight, or having minor issues like wax in the ears, can be avoided with timely precautions.

Candidates should get a basic medical check-up before appearing for the SSB to identify and address any potential health concerns. Additionally, staying hydrated and getting adequate rest before the tests will help in maintaining normal blood pressure levels during the examination.
