On the 2nd day….2nd phase of SSB interview started. In the morning I was having my PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test) for flying course. Before the beginning of test, one of the flying officers briefed us about the various instrument like altimeter, magnetic compass, Air speed indicator, Artificial horizon, Turn indicator, Climb & Descent indicator.
SSB Experience : 1 AFSB Dehradun
Based on this we gave INSB test having approximately 75 questions on above instruments. The questions were easy but the time duration was very less. So basically it was there to check your speed and accuracy. The candidates who clear this test go for the next round i.e. PABT. In our group 34 candidates gave this test and out of which 19 cleared it. I was also out of those 19 candidates.
In the next round we were made to sit in front of CRT. It comprise of 2 tests, each having 3 attempts of 90 seconds. The best one is considered for accessing. In my batch 2 candidates cleared PABT. I failed in this test and the sad thing, you can give PABT only once in your life time.
On 3rd day my Personal Interview was scheduled. My interview was at 1:00 pm and went for 40-45 min. The interviewer asked basic question about family, hometown, friends, education, Indian Air – Force and current affairs. For the rest day, we were free, so we spend it in chit chat and shared our personal interview experiences.
SSB Experience : Screening to Conference
On the 4th day GTO tasks were scheduled. First of all was the Group Planning Exercise in which they checked our capability to utilize time, resources and man power effectively. After that were group discussions. There were 2 such GD’s and the topics were Price inflation and India’s Mars Mission.
For GTO tasks we were taken to the group testing ground near Bagirathi hall. First task was Progressive group task (PGT) in which we have to complete a task in 45 minutes as a team. After that comes Half Group Task (HGT) in which group is divided into 2 parts and then we have to complete a task.
Then was command task in which every individual had to complete a task as a commander with help of 1-2 Subordinates. Lastly came the Full Group Task (FGT), in which we have to complete a task as a team. It’s all about GTO tasks.
And then comes the conference day. In the conference room all the officials were there including our psychologist, interviewing officer, GTO and the President of AFSB Board. They asked me about the stay, food, what you think how you performed and all that normal questions.
After the conference results were declared within 10-15 minutes and all the unsuccessful candidates were dropped to railway station. I was also one of them. 7 girls were recommended from our batch.
I am waiting for my next chance to come back and clear the SSB.
