2. What your teachers think about you ?
3. What your friends think about you ?
4. What is your own opinion about you and things you want to improve in yourself ?

Writing a Good Self-Description in SSB

1. Talk to your parents, teachers, friends, and colleague. Ask them to give their opinion about you. In this include points they like and dislike in you. It is the easiest way to write a good SD.

2. In parents’ opinion you can include their reactions at various occasions of life’s good times & bad times.

3. Your Personal Interview will be based on your Self-Description. The interviewing officer will read this before you enter into the interview room. He/she will cross check your Self-Description by triggering various types of question based on it .So be careful what you write in it.

4. Always remember that nobody is perfect. So try to write negative points also along with positive ones about you.

5. Your negative points should not be like – I drink & smoke too much, I am hyper and very short temper, I can’t adjust with others etc. Include only those negative points which can be removed by working on them. All above said things can also be removed, but you need not to take risk. You should also write what you are doing for removing these negative points.

6. In positive points include your achievements and try to reflect your good qualities with these achievements instead of saying that e.g. instead of saying that I am hard working, try to show that how you worked hard and achieved some goal. These achievements can be in any field e.g. Sports, studies, competition exam, extra co-curricular activities etc.

7. Some common negative points are: Less or no participate in sports, sleeping habit, eating habit, reading habit, weak communication skills, fear of public speaking, less aware about current affairs issues etc. You can choose those points which apply on you.

8. Some common positive points are: I am optimistic, confident, responsible, helping nature, good in studies/sports/ writing/speaking etc.

9. You need not to be topper in everything e.g. Studies or sports etc. If you are average in some field, then don’t hesitate in mentioning that. Candidates should write only correct things about them. They should not bluff or tell lies. If they do so, it only lowers their chance of getting selected. Reason is too obvious. Testing officers are there for a reason. They have experience and training of catching lies .

10. Candidates should do practice of writing their self-description on paper in time less than the fixed time period i.e.15 minutes so that he/she get comfortable with actual time of 15 minutes and don’t miss any point in actual test. We advice you to practice is well so that you don’t miss important points during SSB Interview.

11. In the last points you can add point like-I want to improve my physical stamina, general awareness, communication skills, performance in studies/sports/extra co-curricular etc. and achieve my goal.

12. You need not to bother, if you don’t find much positive points or negative points about you. Just be clear with the points you have and try to find more by interacting with others.
